If you’re a fellow foodie running out of food ideas in the East or a traveler looking to enjoy some Japanese cuisine before jetting off, you’ll be elated to hear about Japan Gourmet Hall Sora. Sora is almost like a food court, except that every stall sells delectable Japanese food items! Located at Level 3 of Terminal 2, it is open to public and has the capacity to house 300 diners!
1. Okonomiyaki from Tsuruhashi Fugetsu
Hailing all the way from Osaka, you’re bound to get your okonomiyaki cravings fixed at this stall! Personally found the sauce to lean towards the sweeter side but thoroughly enjoyed the different textures of the pork meat, egg and crunchy cabbage.
2. Tendon from Tendon Kohaku
Prior to trying Tendon Kohaku, I have never tried any other tendons in Singapore. The idea of having all of my vegetables and ebi fried just seemed too oily for me. However, the tendon here surprised me with its light batter coating the food items. Most importantly, they were not too thick and you are still able to taste the natural sweetness of each ingredient! The Kohaku Spicy Tendon featured consists of vegetables tempura, chicken tempura, prawn & other seafood tempura and is bound to fill you up real quick!
4. Chicken Ramen/ Cha Shu Don from Menya Takeichi
If the weather’s starting to rain a lot and you’re looking for a bowl of comfort food just before your flight, here’s one stall you can consider! The use of chicken makes the broth lighter as compared to our usual pork broth and the taste definitely ain’t compromised.
Alternatively, if you just can’t do without your rice, you can get a bowl of Cha Shu Teriyaki Don (pictured below) at an affordable price tag! And of course, you just cannot go wrong with a plate of gyoza!
5. Salmon/Tuna from Kuro Maguro
If you’re not too big a fan of raw salmon (but still love salmon), you really got to give this Salmon Teri Mayo Meshi a try! The pieces of salmon were large and has a melt-in-your-mouth-texture. Coupled with the slightly salty teriyaki sauce and light zest from the mayo, the flavours come together to form delightful bites each time.
6. Sundubu from Tokyo Sundubu
Sundubu is a Korean dish incorporating tofu cooked with a plethora of ingredients such as vegetables, meat and seafood. For Tokyo Sundubu, it aims to add in elements of Japanese food culture into the ingredients and soup. The Miso Butter Sundubu has a lighter taste to it, perfect for those who are looking for something to warm their tummy! If you prefer heavier spices, the Spicy Chicken Sundubu would be the perfect fit for you!
