[London]: Flat Iron

If you think of London, two iconic restaurants are bound to pop up in your head. Duck & Waffles. For their… duck and waffles, of course. Burger & Lobster. For their lobsters. But.. what about Flat Iron? If a restaurant prides itself on serving just 1 dish, it should probably be one worth many return trips. Fortunately, Flat Iron definitely lived up to its expectations.

Despite being a restaurant with just 1 main item on its menu- The Flat Iron Steak (£10), it has its steady stream of customers. At 1830 on a Saturday, the staff at the SOHO branch said that the waiting time was 2 hours, and they would drop a text when there were 5 people remaining in the queue before us.

At 2030, the extremely friendly and polite staff ushered us to our seats at the basement and went through the ordering procedures.  I ordered “The Flat Iron Steak”, done medium rare, with peppercorn sauce.

The wait for the steak was surprisingly short, as compared to the tormenting 2 hours just to get a seat in the restaurant.

As the saying goes, a picture paints a thousand words. So, these 3 pictures ideally should be painting three thousand words.

Jokes aside, the steak’s texture was an absolute delight to indulge in. Worries of the meat being too rubbery and difficult to chew was completely superfluous. With the meat’s texture being soft enough and yet not too soft, each bite was an addiction. Gnawing at every piece of meat sent a burst of juices such that it was like a party in my mouth. The smoky, peppery aroma of the peppercorn sauce also complimented each piece of meat really well. For its price and the relatively short serving time, this steak definitely was worth the long tormenting wait.

Would I come back again? 10/10 YES, not just for the delicious and well-cooked steak, but especially so for the pleasant and friendly service. But, the next time, I would come at a better timing 😉
